I knew from earlier versions of openSUSE that it was possible to reset the MBR, but I lost how to do that. Can anybody tell me?
The dd(1) command can be used to do that.
This zeroes only the MBR
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=446 count=1
This zeroes the MBR and partition table.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1
If you are running GRUB, and want GRUB to do it, you can use
Yast/System/bootloader.
If you use LILO, then the command /sbin/lilo will rewrite the MBR.
