Under normal circumstances I export open documents in pdf format for network distribution and for paper submission. I now have a short-term need to send open documents in doc format, and I am running into troubles with formatting on the receiving system due to fonts.
I think I can solve this difficulty by using a standard XP font (like Times Roman 12), minimal formating, and save in doc format.
I would like to know what issues are involved in using a true type font from XP on opensuse openoffice. (Is it just as simple as copying the correct font from XP into the right folder?)
Which formatting options of openoffice should be avoided when writing a file in doc format? Are the compatibility options (or restrictions) documented someplace?
Thanks much folks!
Theoretically Speaking: There are no technical issues at all. "font.ttf" is simply "font.ttf" no matter what operating system or application it is used in. In KDE, use (Personal Settings) a/k/a kde control center -> System Administration -> Font Installer -> Administrator Mode -> add font; then (1) if the machine is dual-boot with windows, just scroll to /windows/C/windows/fonts and select the fonts you need; (2) if it is a separate windows box on your network, you will need to copy the fonts you need to a place on the network that is accessible from your linux box. Either a shared folder on the windows machine or a smb share and do the same. You can email them to yourself from the windows box for that matter. (3) no network available?, just stick a usb stick in the windows box and copy the needed fonts there or just burn them to a cd or floppy and then use the same media in your linux box and scroll to whatever the correct location is to install. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
