So here is the magic!!!
I started compiz-fusion-icon and performance was back to 60 fps. I
found out that this is becaus
compiz-fusion-icon starts compiz using "Loose Binding" and "Indirect
Rendering". I dont know how to set this without compiz-fusion-icon but
once I know I will post it to there

No, (we) dont want Xgl. I am trying to get the same performance on my Vostro 1700 without Xgl. Xgl works great, but I cant run any of my other OpenGL stuff. So I would like to use plain nVidia drivers and Compiz, but the performance is weird. It will rotate the cube at lightning speed and then just "hickup" for about 2 sec, same for Alt-Tab.
That particular symptom sounds exactly like the behavior of beagle on my machines - Silky smooth operation was attained by killing the beagle processes and removing the packages. YMMV.

No, Beagle didn't see more than 10min on my machine - nuked if as soon as the machine booted the first time. As I said, what bugs me is my desktop PC with a lesser videocard (6600) and exactly the same install have none of these issues. And the laptop runs smoothly compiz with XGL installed - so the driver, card and install is fine - can only be something in X.
