I believe the problem is in KMail or as some have suggested in KDE itself.
As said I noticed that in Gnome since I don't use KDE. There is a bugreport for it: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231334 I don't know about the behaviour in KDE but I suspect it's also a window manager (kwin) thing.
