Email works with names, not IPs numbers. And for anything non local (meaning the same machine), you need a DNS. with MX lines.

Ok, understood. I seem to remember testing my previous email server like this, but OK it dosen't work. How can I check this new install to make sure it is sending and receiving properly, before I put it on the firing line for my domain?
