I just went to install some rpm files (for TuxPaint) and was concerned.
Every time I clicked on the rpm file (in Konqueror) I was told to install wtih yast. I dutifilyy gave my password and then had to wait several minutes while various cache files were updated before each would install.
Correct. The package management sytem in OpenSuSE is currently, and historically has been, painfully slow.
What can I do to get rid of this behavior?
Write a GUI wrapper for the "rpm" application... failing that you can open the command prompt and do: $sudo rpm -Uhv <name-of-rpmfile> it should install in seconds (depending on the actual RPM package size) Also you can use SMART Package Manager (why its not the default is unknown) and it will be way faster than YaST2. The current behavior is analogus to Windows running Windows Setup each time you try to install an MSI package. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
