Hello,
I am pouring over an RHCE book and noticed that it is heavy on GUI administration. Preferably, I'd like a book that is not so distro specific, but one that provides CLI administration. Although, using YAST has made administering Suse installs an easy and almost painless experience, I find that I would benefit greatly in learning Linux Administration from a book that was not distro-specific.
Can anyone recommend such a book? On a similar note, could someone recommend a good Suse certification book?
From a general certification standpoint, I personally found the "LPI in a Nutshell" book from O'Rielly to be very helpful when I took my LPIC-1 exam several years ago. The version I had was not quite up to date on
Disclaimer: I work for Novell Training Services as the instructor program manager, in addition to being an all-around Linux geek. the LPI exam, but it was "close enough" that it helped me through the exam. Novell Training has courses, of course (pun not intended) that focus on the CLP10 and CLE10 practical examinations - the feedback from students who have used these materials are that they are quite good in preparing for the exams and real-world tasks used in administration of SLES10 systems. This would be courses 3071-3075 (inclusive), and there are bundles available - the kits are available for self-study as well. A bit more expensive than books (did I say "a bit"? Someone will say "a lot", and they'll be right), they include hands-on labs to do as well, including the necessary evaluation software. The SLES9 courses are also available through Course Technologies in the academic channel - you may be able to purchase them at a local college bookstore if the school offers the class. They cover SLES9 and I *believe* include an addendum for SLES10, but they have not been updated to equate to the CLP10 curriculum. Hope this helps.
