Hello list, I just installed an old Thinkpad 390e with OpenSuSE 10.3, but I'm hitting a snag with the pcmcia network card (Xircom REM56G-100). The card is properly recognized (under its correct name), the kernel module loads (xirc2ps_cs), I can configure it, the hotplug events are logged when I pull it out and back in. Everything looks perfectly OK... except no packet ever gets out or in. It can't communicate. Even weirder is the behaviour of the interface counters displayed by "ifconfig": the byte counter increases as I launch a "ping", but the TX and RX packet counters both stay firmly at 0. To eliminate any potential side issue, I disabled the firewall and support for IPv6, and to make sure the card was still OK, I tested it in another old laptop -- it does work. Also, I made no manual change to the "pcmciautils" configuration files (TCP/IP configuration done through YaST). Attached are the log entries during an eject and insert hotplug event. Has anyone seen this before ? TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph.
