Got a .doc file from a simple windows user with which I have my problems. The window user will not be able to get me the information as to what she did and what windows she is using. The problem, a first with document files. is that OpenOffice does not open the document. It give some information about Openoffice.or 1.0 Chart, Help content and ODF Chart. Thought this would give a hint that I needed some extra Openoffice products. Choose to install OO draw and mono. Checked and all my OO 's are version 2.4.0.3.5-1.1 I am running a fully updated 10.2 in kde. If I now look at the doc file I get a whole bunch of possibilities but still not a readable document file. I can get a readable text with a lot of extra data with Kate or kwrite from which I could make a more or less readable new file in text format but I would like to know what exactly I have received. Opening in these two editors gives me a warning that this doc is a binary file. Could somebody tell me what i should do to get a good openoffice file out of this doc?
If you can't attach the document to a bug, try running 'file <docname>'
on it to detect the file.
