Don't do that Pete. This is not windows. If the application launches and you are not running as root the chances of it needing to be re-installed are infinitesimal small.
Sending is not related to receiving. The fact that you can receive is not really germane.
If you Pull down the File menu, and Send Queued Message is not grayed out, click it and see what happens.

Hi i have tried that it just sits there and does absolutley nothing as a user or root so i am just a little miffed to say the least , It's a real pain to have to read mails on one machine and reply on another sending the reply to both the laptop and the other party . one thing i have noticed is when kmail is up and running on this box i normally get 2 or 3 instances of "kio_pop3" running with one smtp instance whilst sending , On the laptop i get 1 instance of "kio_pop3" running and 1 instance of smtp all the time that goes when i close kmail down .
