Hello list users:
I have a problem accessing a file. The file permissions are the follows: ls -lh /usr/lib/firebird/security2.fdb -rw-rw---- 1 firebird firebird 668K 2007-10-01 14:29 /usr/lib/ firebird/security2.fdb
I've put myself into the firebird group as a member. Still I can't read the file: cat /usr/lib/firebird/security2.fdb cat: /usr/lib/firebird/security2.fdb: Permission denied
file gives: file /usr/lib/firebird/security2.fdb /usr/lib/firebird/security2.fdb: writable, regular file, no read permission
That's an odd diagnostic, since according to the ls output you gave above, no category of access gets write without read. Mostly likely it's just an anomaly in how the "file" is reporting the access problem.
What is this?
Your user and group identities are established when you log in. After you added yourself to the firebird group, did you log out and back in?
