Thanks. I guess it is the webcam and skype that are not working together. xawtv works with it, and kopete works (though I only have AIM which doesn't work with a webcam), so the webcam works. I had seen skype working with a webcam on a laptop I recently installed 10.3 onto, but it was a 32 bit version, which was why I asked. Thanks again for confirming it does work with x86_64.
How about telling us which webcam it is and which driver is used for it. For my (cheap) QuickCam Express supported from the spca driver I had to use a newer version since the version shipped within the 10.3 kernel is buggy. Probably it's something similar for you? The package says it is a Manaccom. It is an Omnivision Technologies, Inc webcam 05a9:4519 according to lsusb. Searching told me the module for it is ov51x-jpeg, which I was able to find in the Build Service in home/schmolle1980 for the latest 10.3 kernel. As I said, it works with xawtv and Kopete, but Skype (which BTW is no longer beta, 2.0.0.63 is out, just checked and upgraded as well), Options, Video Devices finds it but test produces nothing but a black screen (and high CPU usage). Module version is 1.5.6. I would guess it is a skype problem since the webcam works with xawtv and kopete. Related modules loaded are: snd_usb_audio 109952 0 snd_usb_lib 34688 1 snd_usb_audio snd_hwdep 27528 1 snd_usb_audio ov51x_jpeg 165464 0 compat_ioctl32 25472 1 ov51x_jpeg videodev 44416 1 ov51x_jpeg v4l2_common 36480 2 compat_ioctl32,videodev v4l1_compat 28676 1 videodev
I would assume compat_ioctl32 is what allows the 32 bit skype to work with the 64 bit kernel module. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
