Can I create an image on one computer, wife's laptop, and install it on another computer, desktop ??
Hi Patrick
I've created a set of VMWare images on a central machine and moved them around as required for development. You'll be asked whether you want to regenerate a GUID (I think that's it) on the machine's new home, just go ahead and do it. There may be problems moving from an AMD to an Intel CPU or vice versa, but since I use mainly AMD chips I haven't come across problems.
Cheers
Pete
The only place I had to try over was running the windows installer on the new image. I at first treated the boot up as wanting to install new but then later on in the process I was asked if I wanted to repair the installed system which is what I did. The only other thing that I needed to do was make sure I removed the VMware tools package first. This didn't all happen on the first try and took 5-6 tries before it worked the way I wanted it to. In the whole process I made sure I had a good copy of the original VMware disk image to go back to in case of problems. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
