Hi all again... My OpenSuse 10.3 serve is gonna serve a bounch of WinXP clients; I know that Samba can act as a DC but I cannot figure out what I really need to configure it all the way.
I just enabled Samba as DC but my own WinXP says that can't find the domain that I've configured on Samba...
Is there someone who has already done that and can help me a little?? I assume there is something to do with LDAP too... and maybe DNS also...
Any clue?
Bye and thank you all in advance!

Dunno about ldap...
but you do need to add a
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.<your domain> IN SRV entry pointing to your domain server into your dns at least (samba docs hold more details).
You will probably need to manually edit the zone files. If you goto the directory /var/lib/named where you will see a number of files with zone extension. I do not know what YaST uses as the name of the zone files (you will probably need to have a look into /etc/named.conf to identify the zone file name). The following needs to be entered... ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.<domain>. IN SRV 0 100 389 <server name> I cannot remember at the moment what the numbers before the server name indicate but they are important (long time since I did this). Before you do this manually I strongly recommend that you look at the named.conf man page...., or visit the site below... or check the SuSE bind/DNS documentation. http://www.csie.nctu.edu.tw/document/bind/config.html getting this wrong could seriously foul up your network. A useful GUI DNS management tool is part of webmin. If you do not feel confident about manually editing the zone files it might be worth installing this and using it. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
