Not to mention the fact that Apple already tried and abandoned a 3rd-party hardware licensing scheme back in the 90s. Nonetheless, Apple's revenues are no longer so strongly weighted toward Macintosh hardware. The iPods are very significant source of revenue, as are music and video sales via the iTunes store. Apple is still very much a proprietary hardware and software operation and I'd be surprised to see that change, but I'd definitely be a lot more surprised by non-ballistic porcine flight.
