Yes, that struck me as odd too. My machine came with a similar card, a "Marvell 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller", and everything just worked out of the box. It is using the sky2 driver.

When I first noticed the problem, a google search found evidence of others having the same problem - for example, see http://kerneltrap.org/node/7135 Subsequently, I found documentation on Marvell's website explaining how to install the sk98lin driver. I have tried 2 different approaches explained in their documentation but have not been successful thus far.
