try this: telnet {mainframe's_IP_or_name_goes_here} 623 and see if you get a connection to port 623. here's an example of me using telnet to connect to port 80 on this machine: akulkis@kulkix:~/.mozilla> telnet localhost 25 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.
