I downloaded the gutenprint rpm and installed it. I went to TurboPrint setup and tried to load the Canon PIXMA MP830 driver only to find that TurboPrint insisted on the /dev/lp0 device. I went to Yast2/Hardware/Printer and noted that the printer was not spotted by the printer application. I went further and loaded the MP830 driver(which I assume was the one I downloaded from Gutenprint) and tested the connection: I was informed that I was using "a different spooler". The queue printer set up could not be saved because "selected spooler does not support it". I looked around for a spooler selector and found none.
Can you help me further?
I know the connection between the computer and the MP830 works because when I turned on the computer, the MP830 (which I left on since the last session) woke up (the LED screen turned on and the motor made a noise).

In the turbo print setup. If you select add. It asks you where/how printer is connected. Although it may only give you a option like /dev/lp0, Is not possible to type in /dev/usb0 and try that. Some bits of background info from my experiences. I have been swapping about between Suse and Kubuntu various releases for the last 2 or 3 years.I have had a hicup with suse 9 or 10 and this current one 10.3 with turboprint and an odd ubunto version. odd tool elements wouldn't work and sometimes couldn't get it to work at all. I may be wrong but I get the feeling that if you try to get the distro to set up the printer first before using turboprint, that sometimes throws a wobbly. e.g. In suse 10.3 I thought I would try yast first to see if by canon printer was supported out of the box but it wasn't so I installed turboprint. Now in suse, everytime I start the printer, I click on print and nothing happens. Open up turboprint setup and I don't have to configure anything, touch anything but the printing starts!. Under Kubuntu the printing starts but there is a delay for each print job. I tend to experiment a lot and sometimes I end up reinstalling the distro to get rid of all my errors. On reinstall, printing sometimes is ok? why? Over the last 15 years I've tried many distros and I've found that one distro installs flawlessly and snother has problems with various things. But when I try on a different machine, the distro that gave problems installs ok and the other one that was ok on machine 1 is now ok for machine 2. I notice a reference you made to printer using a different spooler. Could this be that turboprint has done something? perhaps start up turboprint setup and delete any reference to a printer. Sorry if this doesn't help. I tend to need to be at the problem site to try things out.
