Hi,
So, I just installed and configured a laptop with OpenSUSE 10.3 yesterday and it took quite a while. I installed all available updates too. Toward the end of the day I was getting ready to head out of the office when I got a notice that something had crashed in Gnome (Sadly, I didn't see what had crashed). All my desktop icons disappeared. I logged out and now when trying to log in again, I get the splash screen for the Gnome desktop then nothing. The system tray at the bottom of the screen never appears, the desktop icons never appear and no function keys do anything. Nothing.
I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.

I'm curious. Have you tried under a different login name to see if the situation persists across the board or just specific to your current login account? I used to have a similar problem in 9.3 Every other day, I would have no desktop icons or anything. I would have to go into terminal and kill nautilus which then auto-restarted itself. I did that by doing "ps aux | grep nautilus" and then kill the resulting PID. After a few months, the problem went away, presumably in an update. -- ---Bryen--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
