So booting from a floppy also works. And booting from the install DVD works to boot from the HD, so I believe your HD MBR is also correct. Looks to me like a BIOS boot selection problem. Since floppy, cd, and HD via DVD all work, looks like your BIOS is either not setup to boot from HD, or its settings cannot read it correctly, i.e. maybe try changing LBS for Large or something like that.
Also with some BIOSes you can also specify *which* hard drive to boot from. Have a look at that as well if you have multiple drives.
An addendum. On some occasions I have found that the bios will only boot from the primary master (despite what boot priority you give any other internal disk drives). I have had problems where the partition order means that the MBR is created on a drive that is different from that which the BIOS expects to find it.
