Are you serious there? :o
Yes
Is there any chance i could change this(withou recompiling the whole deal)?
No, and even a recompile wouldn't help. It's not a compile option. It needs rewriting. I think it would even require a recompile/rewrite of the cifs kernel module
Do you know why it is this way? is there a reason?
Not a single clue. It seems silly to me, it should follow the same rules as the other file systems

Within the context of the Linux file system mounting framework I would agree with you. However, in the context of a Directory Service managed resource framework it does begin (I should emphasise the begin) to make sense. In the latter resources would ideally be managed in global network manner, and there should be some constraints on what context a local machine or individual can interact with the network resource. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
