My wireless card seems to be detected fine when I look at Hardware Information in Yast. But I don't have it configured properly under Network Card. I basically do not know which information to put where. Here's some basic information that comes up (everything appears good to me about the card itself from Yast perspective):
BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11 Wireless Lan Controller Device name: eth0 Hwaddr: 00:11:50:ed:43:b8 Wireless Lan: YES driver bcm43xx Drivers: active: YES modprobe: YES modules modprobe bcm43xx
I am trying to connect to a Wireless network called "Harland Network." I know I need to put the similar information somewhere under the Network Card configuation (in Yast), but not sure where. From a Windows laptop, I can connect just fine. Here is the data from that laptop: Address Type: DHCP IP: 192.168.1.104 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server 192.168.1.1 DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
As root from the command prompt: # iwconfig Make sure that eth0 is recognized as a wireless extension, if so # iwconfig eth0 essid 'Harland Network.' # iwconfig mode managed # rcnetwork restart wait 60 seconds and see what happens. Of course you will also have to specify the type of encryption and the key which you should have already set in Yast. If this doesn't work, then you will have to dig further into you card specific parameters that can be set with # iwpriv Also take a look at # iwlist for more information about what you card is seeing regarding available networks and key lengths, etc... -- David C.
