I have hit a rather peculiar problem. When opening various Openoffice Database odb files that include queries and forms I find that the Forms and queries have disappeared and the database connection information goes awol. After various experiments I have found this happens when the odb file is stored to the cifs mount but not when I store the odb on the local file system. Documents seem to load and save without corruption (I have not checked other things yet).
After a diversion due to a problem with the latest kernel update and cifs, I have tried out the fusesmb support. Apart from the problem that this is incredibly slow, (it seems to go through a full authentication cycle for each operation), it did load the OpenOffice database files without any corruption problems. I got a similar result (but a lot faster), with a WIndowsXP connection. - From this it does seem that this is a problem specific to Openoffice and the Linux cifs implementation. After a little further work found that adding the OpenOffice files to the Oplock veto list on the samba server does seem to have solved the issue (for the moment). There are reports that oplocks cause problems in the windows world for some other usages so this seems to be a more general SMB/Windows networking problem anyway. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
