That just points me to the files which weren't being updated when I first logged this. Does that mean that any transactions that happened during this period were not logged at all?
You removed the log files, which is a no-no. You effectively set the syslog daemon into a crazy state and new log data was lost (bug or feature, dunno; probably known (mis)feature). I suppose it kept writing to the file descriptor/reference/whatever of the nonexistent file. You have to reload the daemon so that it knows that somebody has played with his files on his back. You can get a clue that this is known by looking at the /etc/logrotate.d/syslog config file. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
