Hi folks. My old viewsonic g790 finally started to die, so I went out and got a Samsung 204B. Perhaps it is because I'm running a puny old ATI 3D Rage Pro, or because I'm on SuSE 9.3, .... but when I plug in the new monitor (yes, I dropped down to console before doing so, so that I could safely run sax2), I get no output on the monitor, merely a floating box saying that I'm not running at optimum resolution (1600xNNN something). Enter, Esc, Space buttons don't seem to affect anything. Neither does turning off/on the monitor itself. Google didn't turn up anything helpful looking. FWIW, I tried running sax2 from another machine over ssh. Sax2 (mis)identified the monitor as a Samsung Syncmaster 45. I did not see the correct model in the list (but that's probably because 9.3 predates the model). I changed the Horz and Vert according to some specs I found online, but that made no particular difference (small surprise). Upgrading to 10.x is not really an option right now. Help? TIA.
