Ooops, sorry, meant to post to the OffTopic list, not the main opensuse list. Crossposted where it was supposed to end up :-P C.
I went to LinuxTag in Berlin yesterday (Saturday), and was quite impressed with the event. It was much more (larger) than I expected. If anyone has been giving it a miss, you may want to consider going next year :-)
- Had a chance to talk to several SUSE guys. Was nice to be able to put a face to some of the names I see on the mailing lists. - Saw demos of KDE4 in action (very very slick... makes Gnome look even more dumpy and outdated) - Got to play with a prototype of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC). Made me want one even more than before. It is quite a nice little computer.
A few project highlights I picked out to share here: ---------- http://www.openstreetmap.org are collecting GPS mapping data from anyone who has a portable GPS unit, and mapping the planet.
http://www.yacy.net/yacy is a peer-to-peer websearch engine.
http://www.linux-gamers.net/ is a good resource for keeping up with what's happening in the Linux gaming world.
http://www.linux4afrika.de/ is a really interesting project. They provide Linux based terminal server/thin client setups for schools in Africa. They are just getting ready to ship 100 terminas plus servers to... I think he said Tanzania.
http://www.geexbox.org/en/index.html is competition for MythTV
http://www.opengraphics.org are designing a completely open graphics card. They have a sort of working prototype, and more on the go. Quite interesting if you're into hardware design. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
