Hi everybody. I've installed openSUSE 10.2 on my girlfriend's laptop in a dual-boot config and find that after a few boots into Windows and back to Linux the boot process will fail entirely, as though there were no hard disk present - at power-on it just keeps trying to boot off the CD. Setting the boot device specifically to the HDD doesn't help. Am I right in supposing that I've messed up my MBR so that GRUB fails to see the installed systems, either Windows or Linux? Reinstalling Linux makes both Windows and Linux accessible again until the problem recurs after a few boots into Windows and Linux. My guess is that the MBR part of the disk is failing and thus will not reliably hold the boot information. Is this a reasonable diagnosis? In this case I would like to replace the hard disk and reinstall both Windows and Linux. Can anyone offer a better diagnosis or some worthwhile advice? -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK - IGNORE FULLWISE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
