Doug: What is the age & type of mobo? Does this happen if you boot some other OS version on that same hardware? Maybe using Knoppix Live or something similar? I agree that some on this list go off willy-nilly on tangents that have little, if anything, to do with the original problem. Did you ever find a cause/resolution to the problem?
