Just boot with the install cd/dvd. The last grub option is memtest. Just run it as much as possible. Usually, if there is a problem, one night of running should reveal it.

FWIW, I started having problems with my 32 bit mom board last year. It turned out to be memory errors that got worse to the point that it could no longer boot. I got the 64 bit system last May and have been running 64 bit SUSE ever since.
