I have had the same problem, usually after installing a JDK update through any YaST update mechanism.
Netbeans has a configuration file located into a directory called etc, within the folder where you installed it. If you look at it, you may see a configuration variable that points straight where you have installed your JDK, you need to locate your new JDK within the filesystem tree, and then make this variable points to that location by changing its value.
Wierd. I went ahead and followed your advice. Oddly enough, netbeans wasn't doing ANYTHING - no exception, nothing. It just wouldn't run. I then decided to "downgrade" Java using SMART from _10 to _07. No luck. Still got nothing. Since I was using an "unsupported" version of Netbeans (5.5) in my own folder structure and since I didn't need any of 5.5's features, I decided to install 5.0 from SMART. Oddly enough, that works. I now am back in business.
