I use the Smart GUI to install packages from the 10.1 DVD9; the channel has the base URL /media/SU1010_001. This works fine, but only if, after inserting the DVD and getting a popup window asking whether to open the DVD in Konqueror (this is with KDE) or ignore, I answer yes (or open). If I answer no (or ignore), smart says it can't find the package I selected to install, although I can access the DVD with any suitable application. Is this expected behavior? If so, why (that is, why is it necessary to display the DVD in Konqueror)? If not, should I file a bug?
If you do not display it in Konqueror, it does not mount the DVD. Perhaps you could tweak Personal Settings, Peripherals, Storage Media, and add an option to just mount the DVD, and choose this to mount it. HTH.
Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried it but it led me to another solution: When the DVD is inserted, an icon for it appears on the desktop; in the properties item of the icon's context menu (right mouse button), in the mounting tab, select the check box "Mount automatically". The next time the DVD is inserted, it is automatically mounted without having to display it in Konqueror. To eliminate the popup window, I selected "Toggle as Auto Action" for the option "Do Nothing" for Mounted DVD in the Personal Settings. In trying to reproduce what I described above, I found I must have misremembered, because, as you correctly point out, by clicking ignore, the DVD remained unmounted (before I selected "Mount automatically"), and I in fact could not access the DVD; I was probably remembering the submount behavior of SUSE 10.0.
