I was able to bring sax back to live (with sax2 -r) and I was also able to configure vnc there. however, not as stated in the gui, it is not listening on port 5900 (still only 5801 and 5901) and by connecting to 5901, I see
screen only... I'll go a bit more for the documentation... somehow a pitty it is not that straighforward to setup yet.. and especially the fact, that you have to config in different gui's makes it a bit... tricky...
This sounds like a known bug. If you install the Gnome desktop first during install, you get a grey screen when starting a vnc session in gdm. If you install KDE first as the desktop so you get the kdm manager (redundant, I know), then vnc works properly. I have filed a bug report on this. Appears the problem has been around since RC1 in searching
gray the
bug reports.

Clint,
Thank you... you don't happen to have the bugreport # so I could CC to it? Somehow I didn't have the luck to find it..and I don't really have the will to install a KDE as I got perfectly used to gnome (no please!! no DE war here now!)
My report is #227129. All you need is the kdm as default desktop manager which is distinguishable by the userID and password login boxes both being present on the screen at login. This ticket has been marked resolved because it is a duplicate of 221350 and the problem has been around since Beta 2 (I stand corrected, it has been around for quite a while; doesn't seem to be a priority). Bug 221350 - remote vnc login does not work with gdm, but it does with kdm.
I am sure there is a way to install kdm as the default desktop manager without installing everything in KDE but I don't know how. When I found the problem, I tried installing KDE, didn't fix the problem or change to kdm. Since it was a fresh install on a new system and VNC was really important to me, I simply reinstalled fresh with KDE as the desktop; then as soon as I finished install, I went back in and install the Gnome desktop, all goals were acheived.
Client, I just applied this very simple fix that is mentioned in bug 221350 (it is a type enable->Enable) and now it works with gdm (without changing anything else. Just hope there will be updated packages for future installations. Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
