You need to enable one or both of these. I'd start with enabling imap first. Then configure squirrlemail to work with Cyrus. Go to /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail and run './configure' without the quotes. There is an option to let that use default configuration with different imap servers, choose Cyrus. I have cyrus running with squirrelmail, and I like this setup a lot. I used uw-imap previously, but find cyrus to be a much better solution. I run only imaps, but there is an additional step to get that to work with squirrelmail, you have to set up stunnel on your server, as squirrelmail will not work with imaps directly. This is doable, but get it working with imap first. I reading Sandy's recommendations, you do need to set up your mailboxes in cyrus first. Read the docs at /usr/doc/packages/cyrus-imapd/README.SuSE. Set up system user 'cyrus'. Then use cryadm to set up your mailbox users. Be patient. Once you get it set up, it'll work great.
