The annoyance/'problem' comes in when I have to move the windows of each and decide if I would like it to fill only part or the full screen ie location and size of each app window. Each time I start the machine up and login I have to start each app and then decide on its size and location.
How/where can I get the respective windows to remember their locations and size. I would assume on each app window but have driven myself arounnd several bends trying to figure out which does what so some help would be appreciated.
From your description I think the issue is not how to configure location and size, but how to have all windows open neatly where you want them every time you login. I typically spend some time laying out my ideal desktop when I update the system, then I go to Personal Settings / KDE Components / Session Manager and set "On Login" "Restore manually saved session" (Apply). This causes a new item "Save Session" to appear in the KDE Menu. After saving the session all applications and windows reopen at login where I want them (even in the correct desktops), regardless of what their default behaviour is.
