I finally have my system back. I wiped out all the partitions (except for Windows) and recreated them with a small boot partition at the front. I also reseated my hard drive cable. I don't know which of these steps did the trick and which were actually unnecessary, but the end result was that I now have 10.0 up and running on that machine. Paul
