Well, it appears I can't install anymore software. I just now tried to install gcc. I get the message: <snip> I guess this all gets back to the issue that I can't add any new installation sources.
The logs you posted showed the connections to the installation source you were trying were simply timing out. That's why I posted a link to another (known good) server. You didn't post back to report whether or not the link I provided. Another possibility... could this actually be a networking or firewall problem?
I'm reinstalling yet again, so we'll see how things go this time around. It's on it's 4th iteration of update, so I suspect it's about to complete the installation. I've tried at least 5 different servers (on both sides of the US and some in europe), I find it unlikely they all would be busy. Further, I can access them via a browser very easily. I think it's highly unlikely it's a firewall/network issue. This machine sits on a network with 9 other computers of various OS's, including 3 SuSE boxes and none of them have network problems. I've not attempted to add an installation source to any of them recently, but I'm assuming we're talking straight ftp/http, which does work for all these machines. When it finishes the installation, I'll run online update one more time to see if there's anything else to be patched. Then I'll attempt to install some software and see where it goes from there. -- Until later, Geoffrey Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin
