Hi, It's happened again. For some unknown reason I have lost the ability to login as any user other than root. This is via console or X.
The last time it happened I had to re-install from scratch! Don't want to do that again. I've checked hard drives - there is plent of space on all partitions. Shell is /bin/bash - same as is used by root.
Can anybody explain the process of login and what programs / files are used so I can check they are all there etc. One other symptom that may help is if I do a su to another user I get /bin/bash :permission denied - what permissions should be on bash?
