How about;
# mv /usrlib/codecs/* ~/gnome2/totem-addons

Thanks, Masaru Nomiya, but it seems to me that I don't get the point. I've moved/copied all the files in MPlayer essential-20060611 to ~/.gnome2/totem-addons and restarted Totem to no avail: no video file is played.

Here the contents of the ~/.gnome2/totem-addons folder. I've also tried by copying them to ~/.gnome2/totem-addons/codecs. Same result.

It is far clear that I'm completely new to Linux! Please, where am I wrong/what step am I missing? Thanks!
