I tried to upgrade 3 test servers from 10.0 to 10.1, installing a text-only server oriented system, and found these problems, that were not present in 10.0: 1.- I tried to update, after reading an interview to the SuSE project manager (Andreas?) that suggested and update instead of an install from scratch. I booted with 10.1 CD 1, and selected update installed packages only. After update, reboot the system and all I can see is a strange grub command line, the partition... lost! So I had to install fresh - like I always do with a new SuSE version. BTW - I don't know why the update option insists in suggesting a graphics environment installation when updating if it does detect that I have a minimal system. 2.- CD-ROMs and USB drives are no longer auto-mounted in text mode. This works wonderful in 10.0, stopped working in 10.1. 3.- I use MaxDB on 10.0 - I have a kind of "recipe" that worked fine on several installations I have made of MaxDB 7.6 on 10.0. When starting the instance on 10.1, MaxDB reported a -very- fatal error regarding with not being able to access the data files of the instance! - which typically happens when the MaxDB user does not have full permissions to the data directory, the problem is that the MaxDB user was the owner of the data directory. I have disabled AppArmor, I don't know if that may have affected the system in some way. BTW, while running yast from putty consoles, the system got frozen several times, and I had to reset the PC. The same PC had several days running 10.0 without interruption. My conclusion, for my server tasks, I prefer 10.0, it is solid and modern, and it has its patches up to date. I have the impression that 10.1 brings many enhancements for graphic desktops, from what I have read in this list, but presents too many problems for me in text-mode. I just wanted to share my experience with the community. Don't get me wrong, I am big SUSE fan.
