Not to be a pain, but I'm having an issue. I used to have MPlayer set as the default player for .mov, .avi and .mpg files. I now want to have Kaffeine be it. I simply like it how it allows me to double-click for full-screen view better than MPlayer.
I often have been right-clicking on the icons in Konqueror for the given file and it opens in Kaffeine. However, I decided to assign the program to the file types. I right-clicked, left-clicked on open with, and set Kaffeine as the default.
When I go back to open a file by double-clicking, I get the following alert dialog box twice:
KDEInit could not launch '/home/kai/media/movies/ep3_Low.mov'.
I can still right-click to open, but double clicking doesn't work.
What should I do? --
Kai, I have a similar problem in SuSE 10.0, but only with certain movie formats. For example, in the file associations screen I can set .wmv files to open automatically with Kaffeine, then double click it as you do. Goes full screen no problem. Same with an .asf and some other movie file formats. However, with .mov files and .mpg files I cannot open with Kaffeine, and I get the same error message you do. I noticed the following: If I right click on a .wmv file I see the Kaffeine coffee bean icon as an option. However, if I right click on a .mov or .mpg file there is no Kaffeine coffee bean icon -- only a default blank icon. If I try to click on it I get the error message you mentioned. This tells me that for reasons I don't understand **yet** Kaffeine is not a choice that's offered to open .mov or .mpg files. I tried to add .mov and .mpg extensions in the file associations screens in the KDE Control Center, but so far I have not been able to get Kaffeine to "stick." I select it as the player to open .mov and .mpg files, and click apply, but it won't stick for some reason. I have no problems playing all video files with Kaffeine using SuSe 9.3. I have not figured out **yet** why I can't do the same in 10.0. So you're not alone on this one! By the way, unless you really need that double click feature I'd suggest that you try using Totem (Movie Player) rather than Kaffeine. It seems to work with a lot less hassle than Kaffeine. And the one thing I really dislike about Kaffeine is NOT a problem with Totem. That is, if you click off a video in mid-play with Kaffeine by closing Kaffeine, and then click on another video to start up again, the first one that you did not stop cleanly picks up rather than the one your wanted. You must stop playing the first clip in Kaffeine before a second one will play. But with Totem you can just click another and it will play. Just my opinion, of course. :o) Gil
