Kai, I have a similar problem in SuSE 10.0, but only with certain movie formats. For example, in the file associations screen I can set .wmv files to open automatically with Kaffeine, then double click it as you do. Goes full screen no problem.
Same with an .asf and some other movie file formats.
Interesting. I have exactly the same issue with .wmv. Don't have any .asf files handy.
However, with .mov files and .mpg files I cannot open with Kaffeine, and I get the same error message you do.
I noticed the following: If I right click on a .wmv file I see the Kaffeine coffee bean icon as an option. However, if I right click on a .mov or .mpg file there is no Kaffeine coffee bean icon --
Okay, that's what happens when I try to associate these filetypes with Kaffeine. However, I get the "blank" icon on the top of the list and the regular coffee bean icon a but further down. <snip>
By the way, unless you really need that double click feature
No, just being lazy. That's all. :P
I'd suggest that you try using Totem (Movie Player) rather than Kaffeine. It seems to work with a lot less hassle than Kaffeine. And the one thing I really dislike about Kaffeine is NOT a problem with Totem.
Hmm. Will give it a try. I'm going to be loading a few DVDs on the laptop for a road trip in a few months. Gotta keep the kids entertained, after all. I've got a car plug in and an adapter for the cassette player to pipe the sound out through the car speakers. <snip>
Just my opinion, of course. :o)
Works for me, thanks! -- k
