I have used the GUI message filters substantially and currently have over 100 filters. Some of these filters uncheck themselves and so they are not run the next time a message that matches the filter criteria is received.
I am assuming that the details I have entered via the GUI are stored in a text file and I would like to start editing that file directly. I have done some searching through ~/ I have not been able to locate a file that holds the filter information, even in ~/.mozilla.
Is my assumption right that I can edit the filters in a text file and if so where/what is this this file called?
The file is called 'training.dat' in the Profile (Default) sub-directory but it wouldn't be editable - see for yourself.
Google is your friend:
training.dat -> junk system msgFilterRules.dat -> messages filters (oddly enough)

Yes, you are correct- msgFilterRules.dat is the one for filtering mail into "pigeon holes" and this one is editable.
That msgFilterRules.dat file is a ghastly file to edit though when I had a look at it. Isn't there a simpler way ie entering csv values into a test file.
I suspect that the filter file you now have has somehow got corrupted. Why not delete it and start from scratch? And have to re type the details of over 100 filters, I DON"T THINK SO,

The other thing I've been wondering: do you really have to have a set of 100 filters to do your filtering? A single filter can contain more than one condition to test for, you know that don't you? I know that Basil, but the problem is that I receive email from over 100 mailing lists where I might only be subscribed to 50. Having separate filters allows me to edit the message filter when the message received changes the data it was filtered on.
I am thinking though that there must be a 'simpler' way ie setup an IMAP mailserver and use procmail to filter coz at least the configuration is a text file eventhough writing receipes doesn't look fun, judging by the $>man procmailex page. The options I have are scarey, but you gotta love Linux :)
