Hmm ... <snip> The "volume thingy" (kmix in the kicker panel) is turned on. I have tried changing "channel" from master to pc speaker to headphone, etc .... no change.
I have also checked in control center/sound and multi-media/sound system. When I click "test sound" nothing happens. And, when I have tried to change (from the hardware tab) the "select audio device" value from "autodetect" to anything else, the sound system tries to restart and gets caught in a loop. The little "restarting sound system" dialogue box grows its % done bar to 90+ and then ... restarts at zero. The really aggravating things here are: 1)I am hearing occasional "system beeps" that are loud and clear: I think they occur while I am attempting changes to control center values. 2)Last night, I could hear my cd playing ... just barely audible if I put my ear close to the system speaker. So -- I need some advice as to how to proceed from here? If this were windows I would delete the sound drivers, and then remove all of the related sound software, and re-install. But, I am not sure how to do that here, or if that even makes sense to do? Peter
