Installed mysql via yast. when trying to launch mysql, it states,
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
Searched google and find a few solutions: 1. run mysqld_safe as root and got following error Stopping server from PID file /var/lib/mysql/linux.site.pid mysqld ended
2. Added a line to mysql.server ln -s /usr/share/mysql/mysql.server /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S99mysql Still no joy!
There is no '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' on the server.
Any idea? Trying to figure this out for days.

Kai stupid question: are you sure the server is running (you can do that in Yast, run level editor)
then: have you tried to start with mysql --socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock ? if this works, then you have to edit /etc/my.cnf -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com special interest site: http://www.bauer-nudes.com
