I posted on the OpenSUSE list a note to find out about NetworkManager, and I was advised I should be posting here. Now that I understand how NetworkManager is started, I am looking for help troubleshooting getting it to work. Essentially, the NetworkManager applet sees no interfaces. Running dmesg shows: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready bridge-eth0: enabling the bridge bridge-eth0: up ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready Hardware is an IBM R52 laptop that has been running SuSE 10.0 with ifdown/ifup just fine. The two physical interfaces on this machine are eth0 (Ethernet) and eth1 (Intel 2200BG wireless). If I configure YaST Network Devices to use Traditional Method (ifup/ifdown), and then change the method to use Network Manager, /var/log/messages shows the following: May 14 17:18:24 shiraz kernel: bridge-eth0: disabling the bridge May 14 17:18:24 shiraz kernel: bridge-eth0: down May 14 17:18:25 shiraz kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready May 14 17:18:25 shiraz kernel: bridge-eth0: enabling the bridge May 14 17:18:25 shiraz kernel: bridge-eth0: up May 14 17:18:25 shiraz network: Checking for the NetworkManager: May 14 17:18:25 shiraz network: Checking for the NetworkManagerDispatcher: May 14 17:18:25 shiraz network: Checking for the DHCP DBUS Daemon: May 14 17:18:25 shiraz network: NetControl System is active as well.
