I would just share this with you ... I was having the same problem with excessive use of the CPU with this new zmd I did not turn it off yet but after changing to Xgl and Compiz things return to normal.. zdm still claims that there is a lot of update which I ignore for now. I will try to return to SuSEWatcher as this was working great in SuSE 10.0 if it is possile.

Exit yast. Change only one source, then exit yast again.
I found that sometimes that's the only thing that works for changes to be accepted.
