Hi list.
I installed SuSE 10 on a new hp/compaq nc6230. I downloaded the ati driver but still I cannot get any better than 1024x768. Any thoughts on how to debug/resolve this?
Thanks in advance
Hi Kevin, I've scanned through my graphics card setup notes and found an excerpt from an earlier SLE post that might relate directly to what you're experiencing:
After opening yast 'graphics card and monitor' it showed resolution to be 1024x768 but xorg.conf has 1600x1200 and also from KDE menu system/monitor/x-server shows the same but shows also 402 x 302 dimensions which is incorrect for sure as my laptop is 15" and has 302 x 230 minimeters only. ... If you use the ATI driver, you can still use sax2. Just go to init 3, then modprobe -r fglrx, then invoke sax2 via sax2 -m 0=fglrx. After setting it up correctly and saving, you only need to init 5 to get back to your graphical screen. BTW, you do not need to setup 3D or dri with sax2 as this is done automatically by choosing the correct module, i.e. -m 0=fglrx
