This seems to happen when you're installing on a system with multiple OS's installed and many partitions... the bootloader installer misinterprets or misreads your intentions.
Graphic file "(hd1,0) /boot/message" missing, press a key to continue This says Grub is looking in hdb1/boot for the graphic file 'message'
In 'Grub-speak', device and partition numbering starts at 0 hda = hd0 hdb = hd1 hdc = hd2 and so on Likewise partitions: hda1 = hd0,0 hda2 = hd0,1 hdb3 = hd1,2 and so on Therefore, when you write this:
My suse 10.1 partition is /dev/hda1.
and you see this:
Booting 'Linux' root(hd1,0)
it must be wrong since hd1,0 is hdb1 The easiest way is to boot to rescue mode and use the 'vi' (or 'vim') text editor to correct the device numbers. In my experience, the paths which come after the incorrect numbers are usually correct. hth & regards, Carl
