Hello,
Thank you for the helpful instructions.
The progress output currently goes to the display, but is there a way to direct the progress output to a file for future review, as well as to the display? The problem is that I can only scull up so far on the monitor and I want to see which files were skipped early on during the copy.
There are several ways.
Unless you want to get intimate with shell redirection of the three most
common file descriptors /and/ pipelining, you can also use this command:
script OPTIONAL_FILENAME
which will (if no filename is given) create a file 'typescript'
(otherwise it will use the given filename) containing *all* of the
output a program generates (stderr and stdout) as well as anything you
type into the subshell. When you are done just type 'exit'.
Otherwise, you have to get into shell redirection which, although the
concept is really quite easy, IMO it takes years to truly understand and
master. Not all programs output to stderr or stdout the same way, and
combining stderr / stdout and redirection /and/ pipelines can get...
entertaining.
