Hi,
I want to transfer my old mail from Kmail on Mandriva 2006 Club edition to Kmail on Suse 10.0. Anybody know what I need to do?
Thanks for your help
Hi Eric, There is probably a simple answer to your question but that requires knowing where and in what form your mail is presently stored. I can give you some background information and a resource I found to be helpful, at least as a start: If you look in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail you'll see that this is where KMail stores a user's mail locally, by default, in SUSE. If you look in ~/.kde/share/config you'll find files with names like "emaildefaults", "emailidentities", "kmailrc", "kontactrc" and "kontact_summaryrc". I've been known to open these up for inspection and/or ad hoc editing, after making backups of course. ;-) When I reinstall a broken system :-) or install a new SUSE version and migrate into it... and I've done this now more times than I can honestly remember... I generally cd, as user, into the parent mail directory (currently ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail) and "cp -rp *" it all to the rebuilt/new directory (temporarily mounting partitions as needed.) Note: This method or using tar: The "-p"(preserve) flag is important so KMail won't reject the indexes and recreate them. Otherwise, you'll have to mark and/or delete a bunch of old mail that suddenly reappears. Here's that resource I mentioned above: http://kmail.kde.org/tools.html Good luck & regards, Carl
